Consultation Bristol

This classic victorian terraced house situated in Bristol has a side alley and a small south facing garden. The garden was overlooked by many neighbouring houses and my client asked me to come up with some ideas to give them more privacy.

They were also keen to have a garden packed full of plants for pollinators, fruit trees and pots for herbs and small vegetables.

A place for entertaining, and play areas for children.

My response was to come up with a garden idea that allows light to flow in but provide privacy in key areas. This was achieved by dividing the garden into two rooms, one as an entertaining space with raised planters packed full of herbs and scented perennials, the second room for topiary and tall perennials for all year round aspect, plus preserving a percentage of the lawn for children to play.

All behind strategically placed trellis fencing to block those unwanted sight lines from the neighbouring homes. This in turn allows privacy on both sides of the garden wall without making anyone feel uncomfortable within their own garden space.

“We used Mark‘s two hour consultation service to help us come up with some planting and layout ideas that would help our terraced house garden feel less overlooked. And we are so happy with the sketch we received. We can‘t wait to start making it into a reality! Mark came very prepared and full of ideas and was so generous with his time and plant knowledge. We wouldn‘t hesitate to recommend him.“
